Procedures for Law Reform Projects The Chairman and the Commissioners, who are assisted by a team of Law research Officers, head all reform projects earmarked to be carried out. The Commission in its reform projects adopts a participatory method, which involves the following stages
1. Preparation of a preliminary/ discussion paper where defects in the law are identified.
2. Intensive consultation on nationwide basis with individuals and groups, whether through personal interviews, meetings or interrogatories;
3. Publicizing the proposed reforms through advertisements in the mass media;
4. Preparation of a working paper which highlights the basic problems and defects identified in the Law or provisions in question and which proffers solution to the problem;
5. Organizing seminars, workshops, symposia and other conferences on the projects;
6. Collation of all expressed views by law research officers for further analysis by the Commission and final preparation of report with draft legislation; and
7. Submission of report with draft legislation to the Hon. Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice. |
